What is a Vinyl Decal

Plain and simple a vinyl decal is a high quality sticker that can withstand almost any kind of weather and an incredible amount of wear and tear. Unlike traditional paper stickers and bumper stickers vinyl can withstand moisture and heat.  It is washable, much like a plastic but it is thin like paper. Vinyl decals are also completely removable, which is one of their biggest selling points.
Vinyl decals are most often used on car windows and bumpers to depict everything from sayings to pictures to the number of members in a family. Another less widely known use for vinyl decals is labeling. Using vinyl to label storage bins, entrances and exits and even mail boxes is a great idea because of how durable they are.
One idea that we have is cutting large directional arrows from vinyl and at conventions and expos adhering them to the floor. They withstand the wear and tear of the foot traffic but at the end of the evening are completely removable. It is a unique and professional way to guide the traffic you have.
Vinyl decals have a wide array of uses, so dream big and leverage vinyl’s unique traits to your benefit.

How to Apply Vinyl Lettering

How to Apply Vinyl Lettering

Vinyl lettering is pretty easy to apply, at first it can seem daunting but follow these few easy steps and it will be up and straight in no time.
Steps to Apply Vinyl Lettering

1.    Let the vinyl flatten for an hour or so – Your vinyl lettering will come rolled up in a tube, we do this because it avoids creases during the shipping process. To have the best results though it is wise to let the vinyl rest on a hard surface until it is mostly flat again. To speed up the process place some books on the vinyl to help hold it down
2.    Clean the surface you will be applying the vinyl too. Make sure it is free of any dirt and moisture before applying vinyl lettering
3.    Once the vinyl is flattened hold it up to the wall for placement. Use a level at the base of the lettering to make sure the saying is level.

a.    Note: Never make measurements from the sides of the application tape. Instead always measure from points on the actually vinyl saying

4.    Measure each side to ensure the distance is correct
5.    Once it is where you would like it place two pieces of masking tape on the top of the vinyl. One of the left side and one on the right (for larger vinyl signs place a piece of tape in the center)
6.    With the tape acting as hinges pull the saying away from the wall enough to peel the backing off.

a.    If the vinyl doesn’t stick to the application tape simply place the backing back into place and firmly rub over the vinyl with a credit card

The Power of Vinyl Words – One Word to be Exact

We recently cut some vinyl for a family member, she wanted only one word – simplify. I thought at first that was a unique choice from all of the designed sayings that we had but we obliged. It wasn’t until after we were designing it that I realized the simplistic power one word could have. Her two young boys could learn to read that word at a young age and yet as they grew it could become applicable in new ways during each stage of their life.
One word on their wall can serve as a reminder to be happy and content with what they have now. It later can be a reminder to do only the essential things first. Then when they are old and visiting home they can look at that word again and remember a simpler way of living and remember to slow down and not get caught up in the everyday rush. One word I decided is powerful because of it has a way of speaking to our situation now.  It can be relevant at any time in our life and it can grow with us as our understanding of its definition grows.
If you could only put one vinyl word on your wall for your children what would you choose?

4 Places to Put Decorative Wall Letters

Vinyl is a growing trend in home décor and design. It is a quick, inexpensive way to make a wall look professionally done. However, because it is so new though people sometimes struggle to know where to put their wall lettering. Here are just a few ideas on where to put a saying to spice up a room:

  1. Above a Window – Instead of or maybe even in addition to a curtain or valance but a vinyl saying above a widow. It can be hard to decide what picture to put in the space between the ceiling and the window, words however are simple and rarely clash with a window frame type or curtain fabric.
  2. On Your Front Door – Most doors have a solid bar about one-third of the way up them, place a welcome sign or your family name right there in that space. You can change up the color in order to match the exterior of your house. The color of it will give you the flexibility to make it as bold or subtle as you want. For instance light brown on a cream door will give you a very subtle look while black or dark red on a white door will be more bold.
  3. As a Chair Rail – Instead of placing a piece of molding one-third of the way up a room wall place a vinyl border. The advantages to vinyl are that when you went to redesign the room it would be easy to remove, it is extremely fast to put up and it is unique. You can design your own border with a pattern cut into that will have the color of the wall show through it.
